Achilles Heel

You were my Achilles heel

Bringing my stride down with each step

A weight I could no longer carry

I tried to cut you out with my pocket knife

Nicking the tender skin

Trying to clear your roots from my ground

You would not go

I had to rip you out

With bare hands

And a strength I never knew

Now I am sprinkling

Salt and sugar

On the wound

So you can’t grow back and

Sweeter things will bloom

In your place
